Why Ball , Butterfly Valves Are Preferred Over Gate Valves?

Ball valves, butterfly valves and gate valves basically have the same function. However, their structural quality is different. The ball valve has a horizontally rotating rod and ball, commonly referred to as a "rotary" valve. The butterfly valve has a stem and a disc that is very similar in function to the ball valve. They are best suited for applications that require on / off control without pressure drop. The gate valve is opened by lifting the rectangular door (or wedge) from the path of the fluid. The sealing surface between the door and the seat is flat, so the gate valve is often used when linear flow and minimum limits are required.

The isolation valves in the mobile industry play a major role in most process applications. Over the years, pipeline design engineers preferred the gate, these features of the globe valve. However, whenever you need to quickly close the ball valve, the butterfly valve is a very preferred option due to the 90 degree open function. Over the years, with more modern valve automation solutions on the market, valves are no longer the main source of choice. In today's market, gate valves and shut-off valves are quickly replaced by ball valves and butterfly valves due to their many advantages. The latter is easy to operate, 90 degrees open to close the function, the size is more compact, thus taking up less space, but last but not least, these valves can be automated at a lower cost. Among all these factors, the degree of automation of ball valves and butterfly valves is becoming increasingly popular among manufacturers and pipeline design engineers. Metal ball valves and butterfly valves now have more versatile designs, even for high temperature and high pressure applications.
